Content Development

(focus & Subfocus)

-Students will spread out in the gymnasium with enough personal space to juggle

-Begin by having students throw and catch 1 scarf

-After 1 scarf is mastered go to 2

-After students successfully juggle 2 scarves, add the 3rd

-To begin, students will successfully juggle 2 of the scarves and simply let the 3rd scarf fall to the ground in order to gain a sense of the cascade pattern

-After practicing 3 scarves while letting the last drop, students can then try to successfully juggle all 3 scarves

-For those who can successfully juggle 3 scarves, try it with bean bags

-Hold the scarves in the middle before tossing them into the air.

-Toss the scarves with the back of the hand pointing toward the ceiling

-Toss the scarves so they cross the midline of the body.

-Catch the scarves using a clawing movement. It is like a cat trying to catch a rolling ball with its front paws

- Make sure your tosses are of equal height.

- Alternate tossing with the right and left hand.

- Keep eyes focused at the peak of the toss.

- Elbows must stay close to the body.

- Stand straight without leaning.

-When the 1st  scarf reaches it’s highest point, toss the 2nd one so it passes underneath the 1st

- After checking to make sure they are following instructions move around the area looking to see their skill level.

-Watch for a smooth and rhythmic pattern

-Make sure students start the pattern from each of their hands

- Note differences in skill level and provide different levels of skill practice.

-Emphasize the importance of making good throws
